Cherish yourself through the beauty of Ballet

Your dance journey is a personal gift to yourself for a special hour every week. Immerse and express yourself to beautiful music. Connect with your inner self. This is for you!

"Nobody cares if you can't dance well. Just get up and dance. Great dancers are great because of their passion" ~ Martha Graham

Ballet is not only a graceful, elegant form of dance, it can also be a great way for you to stay in shape. Ballet will provide you tremendous benefits in terms of health, emotional and mental well-being.

In addition to being great fun, dancing makes you smarter.

Learning steps and executing them to music will stimulate your learning centres in your brain and will encourage enhanced communication between the left and right brain hemispheres. A 2003 study in the New England Journal of Medicine found that in a group of adults over age 75, regular dancing reduced the incidence of dementia by an astonishing 75 per cent, making it the most effective dementia-preventing activity studied.

Ballet brings increased health benefits.

Ballet is a low impact alternative to the gym, and you will feel the amazing health benefits such as many of the following: improve your flexibility, strength, endurance, coordination, stamina, muscle tone, mobility, core strength, mood and self-esteem. It enhances your psychological and physical well-being, will reduce your stress levels. Will Improve your posture and balance to assist in the prevention of osteoporosis.

Ballet is not just for the young and athletic.

Ballet is a fun, physically challenging workout for those that aren’t necessarily trying to become a professional dancer. In dance classes at Balletcoaching@The Dance Warehouse, whether you are a beginning dancer, a continuer or a returner, you will feel equally at home and discover freedom to express yourself emotionally, visually, and physically. Many adults that have never been able to take ballet lessons before believe that their window of opportunity has passed them by. This is simply not true. Granted, the chances of becoming a ballerina with a ballet company diminish quickly as one gets older, but that doesn’t mean that one can’t enjoy the benefits of ballet training well into adulthood.

Benefits of dance for people with PD

In the past couple of decades, more and more research has been done studying how different forms of dance might be helpful in treating PD. In fact, the Dance for PD website  lists 38 scientific research studies on this topic. Research shows that dance can be especially beneficial for those with mild to moderate PD.3,4

Dance appears to be very helpful in improving gait and balance in Parkinson's patients. It also can provide social stimulation and support, which can be helpful in reducing depression and improving quality of life. Plus, dance stimulates cognitive functioning, an area that PD patients often struggle with.

Dance always involves music. This combination of movement to music can be powerful.
